this really interested me

i found it through the Web 2.0 (Entrepreneurs) group i just joined on facebook

8-2-07: from Cal Evans in response to Dave Yen’s discussion topic: I have no web experience, but I want to pursue my idea

“Hi Dave!

1: Determine the technologies you need to deploy your idea
(PHP, Java, MySQL, Postgres, Linux, Windows, etc.)
2: Find a developer partner who you can work with and understands the technologies you want to deploy. A student is fine if they understand the idea. You have to understand that a Student will have other priorities though so things may not happen on your timetable. Since you aren’t apying in cash, you can’t scream too loudly.
3:Register a domain name.
3: Get something built as fast as possible. Working counts, finished is less important.
4: Find a host that supports the technologies you are deploying. (I could write a book on this step alone)
5: Get out there and pimp the heck out of your new site. 24x7, you need to be reading message boards, posting, getting the word out that your new thing is the next big thing.
6: Listen to what your customers say, not your friends/critics. Customer says blue, make it blue. Girlfriend says blue, kiss her on the forehead and keep it the way it is.

There, 6 steps from napkin to roll-out.

Honestly, the programming is the easy part; lots of us can do that. Marketing your idea, THAT’s the hard part.

Good Luck!
